Prestigious award for West Park old boy
A FORMER West Park pupil has received one of the most prestigious prizes in the world of science. John Burrows, a Professor of Atmospheric Physics at the University of Bremen, has been awarded the COSPAR William Nordberg Medal for his pioneering work on pollution levels in the ozone layer. Originally from Eccleston Park, 51-year-old John is an internationally respected academic. He is only the second British winner of the award and is a member of several elite scientific bodies. He said: "Being awarded the William Nordberg medal before more than 2,000 scientists was somewhat nerve racking. As I heard my tribute being read out, I felt proud of my achievements and am grateful to those who helped my scientific development, from my family to my science and maths teachers at West Park Grammar School."
